TURTLE SHELL PRODUCTIONS (TSP) - a theatrical organization of professional playwrights, directors, actors, and designers committed to producing works of superior quality - is in the process of forming a new “Turtle Teens” program for actors age 9 – 17, as an integral adjunct to our theatre company.

Now in our sixth year, TSP continues to enjoy the reputation of staging quality productions in our very own theatre, located in the heart of the New York City 's Times Square . We are excited about the “Turtle Teens” program and look forward to welcoming both established and new younger actors into our organization.

DESCRIPTION OF COURSES AND BIOS OF INSTRUCTORS

The workshops will be separated by age:
(Ages 9-12) & (Ages 13-17)

Improv
Improvisation and theater games are learning techniques designed to develop self-awareness and creative expression.  With an emphasis on building an ensemble in a safe and nurturing environment, students are free to explore their own creativity and to trust their instincts.  The exercises are largely based on the work of Viola Spolin and Keith Johnstone; they foster group participation and spontaneity, exploring, character, place and objects in place. Preliminary work on movement, group, awareness and problem solving will lead to creating scenes and improvisational performance games.

Acting
This class will commence with a “fun and dynamic” assessment of each individual's knowledge of stage directions and theater terminology. This will get everyone up-to-speed quickly and get everyone working on the same page with a professional vocabulary. The utilization of theater fundamentals will be peppered throughout the course. The course will then move through cold readings, casting and into an exploration of scene study which will focus primarily on motivating one's performance honestly, staying true to the text, utilizing emotions and conflict – both internal and external. These concepts and skills will be explored while stressing the practical applications of proper breathing, good diction, and appropriate stage movement and stillness . It is training that will last a lifetime.
