"...an engaging show...suspenseful...exquisite costmes...the actors each do a fine job"
- Amy Freeman, offoffonline

"...good bit of suspense...a delightful performance by Carol Lambert...Miss Tita played with prim yet colorful exactitude by Elisabeth Grace Rothan...Kyle Dixon's spectacular garden set...luridly lit by Shaun Suchan...Patrick Grant's music and sound cue are evocative of the setting"  - Jon Sobel, Theater Editor, BlogCritics

“Victorian costumes by Christina Giannini are lush, and the set by Kyle Dixon beautifully evokes the garden and the airless study.” “Juliana Bordereau (Carol Lambert) is a tough old broad, twice as clever and sexy as her niece…Lambert brings energy to her role.”   - Gwen Orel, BackStage

Zuckerman captures the rich characters that James created without sacrificing any of the suspense in this well-crafted story of the depths of deceit that an American scholar will go to secure the private letters of a famous poet. Set in Venice in the 1880s, the scholar enlists the help of a dowdy, middle-aged spinster in obtaining the love letters written to her shriveled-up aunt long ago. The scholar wants the papers; the niece wants him; the aunt wants his money. This odd triangle builds to a surprising and riveting denouement.
THE ASPERN PAPERS masterfully displays how personal weaknesses can be unscrupulously exploited while also raising questions, quite relevant in today's tabloid tell-all society, about the right to privacy. Director Shawn Rozsa will bring this psychological thriller to vivid life in the garden and study of a Venetian mansion in the newly renovated Turtle's Shell Theater.
